TV Classification Rating

The classification rating is based from the country where the movies or TV series originated. Below are the Television content rating system in the Philippines, India, Thailand, US, Korea and Indonesia.


 

  • G (General Patronage): Suitable for all audiences.
  • PG (Parental Guidance): May contain some adult material that may not be suitable for children without the guidance of a parent or adult.
  • SPG (Strong Parental Guidance): May contain mature themes or moderate to intense violence, which may be deemed unfit for children to watch without strong and vigilant parental supervision.

 

 

  • Preschool: Content that is suitable for preschool-aged children.
  • Children: Content that is suitable for children between 5–12 years old.
  • General: Content that is suitable for general audiences.
  • PG 13: Content that is suitable for people aged 13 and above. It can be watched by those who are under the recommended age if parental guidance is provided. The content can be shown on television between 8:30 PM and 5:00 AM.
  • PG 18: Content that is suitable for people who are 18 years old and above; those who are younger than 18 must be provided with parental guidance. The program can be shown on television between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM.
  • Adults: Content is unsuitable for children and youngsters, and can be viewed on TV only between 12:00 AM and 5:00 AM.

 

 

  • U: Unrestricted public exhibition.
  • U/A: Unrestricted public exhibition but with a caution regarding parental guidance to those under 12 years of age.
  • A: Public exhibition is restricted to adults (18 years or older).
  • S: Public exhibition is restricted to members of any profession or any class of persons. 

 

  • TV-G: The content is generally suitable for all ages. It contains little or no violence, no strong language, and little or no sexual dialogue or situations.
  • TV-Y: The content is designed to be appropriate for all children. The thematic elements portrayed in programs with this rating are specifically designed for a very young audience, including children from ages 2–6. 
  • TV-Y7: The content is designed for children who are 7 years old and above. The thematic elements portrayed in programs with this rating may include 'comedic violence' or scenes that may be frightening or confusing for children under the age of 7. 
  • TV-PG: The content contains material that parents may find unsuitable for younger children, so parental guidance is recommended.
  • TV-14: The content contains some material that many parents would find unsuitable for children under 14 years of age. 
  • TV-MA: The content is specifically designed to be viewed by adults and may be unsuitable for children under 17.  

A program may have one or more of the following sub-ratings that are designated with an alphabet letter:
 
  • D – Suggestive dialogue (Not usually used with TV-MA)
  • L – Coarse language
  • S – Sexual content
  • V – Violence
  • FV – Fantasy violence (exclusive to TV-Y7)
  • E/I – Educational & Informative (usually used for children's programs - Exclusive to TV-Y and TV-Y7)


 

  • All: Programs are appropriate for all ages. The programs may contain some violence and/or some mild language. No adult content is allowed.
  • 7: Programs are not recommended for children below 7 years old. TV programs with this rating can contain mild violence, mild language, little romance.
  • 12: Parental guidance is recommended for viewers under the age of 12. TV shows with this rating may contain horror, some fantasy violence, some sexual content, little use of strong language, mild blood, and/or mild suggestive themes.
  • 15: Parental guidance is recommended for viewers under the age of 15. The programs may contain use of alcohol, more sexual content, mild violence or a little strong violence, major blood or gore, and/or suggestive themes. 
  • 19: This rating is for programs intended for adults. Viewers under 19 years of age are prohibited from watching programs with this rating. The programs are banned from airing during these hours: 7 to 9 AM and 1 to 10 PM. The programs most certainly have adult themes, sexual situations, strong language and disturbing scenes of violence.
  • Exempt (no icon or name): This rating is only for knowledge-based game shows, lifestyle shows, documentary shows, news, current topic discussion shows, education/culture shows, sports (excluding MMA or other violent sports), and other programs that Korea Communications Standards Commission recognizes. Disclaimer or rating icons are not needed.

 

 

  • P (Pre-school/Pra-sekolah): The content is suitable for children that are 2 to 6 years old.
  • A (Children/Anak): The content is suitable for children that are 7 to 12 years old.
  • SU (All Ages/Semua Umur): The content is suitable for all viewers (from kids to adults).
  • BO (Parental Guidance/Bimbingan Orang Tua): The content is suitable for children and teens, but parental guidance is recommended. This classification does not stand alone and is accompanied with P, A, and R ratings.
  • P-BO: The content is suitable for pre-school children from ages 2 to 6, but with parental guidance. 
  • A-BO: The content is suitable for children from ages 7 to 12 (with parental guidance).
  • R-BO: The content is suitable for teens from ages 13 to 17 (with parental guidance).
  • R (Teenager/Remaja): The content is suitable for teens from ages 13 to 17.
  • D (Mature Audience/Dewasa): The content is suitable for viewers who are 18 years old and above. The programs with this rating are aired from 10 PM to 3 AM.
