How do I close the background programs and applications on my computer?

Is your internet speed running at 2 Mbps (download speed) or more, but your computer is running slow while using HOOQ and/or other online applications/programs? It’s possible that your computer may be running on low memory due to multiple applications and processes that are running at the same time.
End the applications and processes that you’re not using and that will give your computer more room to breathe and operate faster. Here’s how:
For Windows:
  • Open the “Task Manager” window by doing one of these:
    • Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your keyboard, and then click “Start Task Manager”.
    • Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.
    • Right-click an empty area of the taskbar, and then click “Start Task Manager”.
  • On the Task Manager window, click the “Applications” tab.
  • To exit a program, click the program that you want to exit, and then click the “End Task” button.
Note: When you exit a program in this manner, any unsaved data in that program is lost.
For Mac:
  • Press COMMAND+SPACEBAR on your keyboard to bring up the Spotlight search field.
  • Type “Activity Monitor”.
  • Hit the Return key when “Activity Monitor” populates in the spotlight results.
  • On the Activity Monitor window, click on the process or application you want to end.
  • Click the “Quit Process” button at the left corner of the Activity Monitor window.
  • Click on the “Quit” button. If the app you’re trying to close is unresponsive, click the “Force Quit” button instead.
